Microsoft updates Windows frequently for fixing bugs and patching security holes. If you have turned on Windows update you should receive all updates regularly. But in practical experience, due to several unexplained reasons, Windows Update fails to notify users about available updates often and as a result your system remains backdated with the every risk of getting infected by malware. But fortunately there is a tool from Proland Softwares called Windows Vulnerability Scanner which if executed, instantly scans and informs about available Windows updates (if any) and rates those as Critical, Important and Moderate.

- Upon executing the executable it bring in the interface with a prompt to start scanning for vulnerabilities.
- You can skip scanning at that time by clicking on “No”.
- You will get to see the GUI that have shown the system information of your PC.
- Now by clicking on “Scan” will start the scan and instantly finishes that and shows the report.
- It will create a htm log file in the same folder as the executable that lists the available updates along with the Bulletin links to know more about the patches. It doesn’t give direct download link for the patch because for different platform the patch link is different. You have to dig into those TechNet links for getting individual download links.
- It will also list the information in the GUI.
- This tool updates every month with the latest information about available Windows updates. You can find the version number and release date just below the Exit button in the software.
- No offline help file but there is an online help file.
My Verdict
Although I like the software I think some features would have make it indispensable.
- A scheduler to weekly check for vulnerabilities and updates to the software.
- An in-built updater of information of latest Windows Updates.
- Since it can detect Windows version, it should give proper download links in addition to the link of the bulletin.
